Destiny - beta access
so whilst i was in my local game shop today i was surprised that 1. they`ve finally employed someone that know`s what they`re on about and 2. they`re actually helpful.
i was told that there`s limited codes for the destiny beta access and if you pre order the game by paying a £5 deposit (refundable with in store credit) you get a code. if you don`t like the feel of it via the beta just cancel the pre order

Just done a preorder on Amazon (where you don't pay until dispatch) and have been sent my beta access code straight away. Beta starts on 23rd July for xbone

So first thoughts....
- As discovered by trying to talk to Si last night, you can't be in a party and play the beta unless you have party chat snapped to the screen
- The gameplay is good, although very, very faced paced
- It is incredibly easy to run out of ammo for your "special" weapon
- There's no blood splatter when you hit an enemy, all the confirmation you get of a hit is some points
- On hard difficulty it's practically impossible to survive on your own, you have to work as a team
- Although the aboves sound like negatives, the premise is good and I was hooked for a while last night

Re: Destiny - beta access
managed to get just over an hour on the beta tonight and got to say it looks promising. to say it`s only a beta it plays well, the movement is very smooth and such a change from the usual clumsy fps movement. i quite like the design and layout of the maps/levels, certainly get an atmosphere in some of the darker areas. the dark areas are a good touch in that the flash light works fairly well in regards the gameplay and the variation that off the beaten track there`s these dark areas lurking adds bit of depth.
the gunplay is pretty standard but i have a slight gripe on the accuracy, whilst ads`ing you can clearly see parts of the enemy yet when you fire the shot off it doesn`t register (hopefully just a beta thing). it`s no gamebreaker but being spoilt with the accuracy of games like battlefield it`s noticable. the enemies return fire so far is very much halo, infact it seems all enemy guns are an equivalent needler.
the rendered cut scenes are graphically superb, second to none i`ve seen on the one so far. the actually graphics in game are decent, i can`t say anything bad about them yet that i`ve seen but they`re still not as jaw dropping as i`d expect for "next gen". the colours are good and have a vibrant depth and variety.
the ai again is very halo like, quick moving and difficult to snipe at times. they seem to take cover when necessary and do seem to flank you but it`s still like any other game in that you can take cover with a good line of sight and pick them off one by one. infact at one point i could line them up four or five behind each other and blast away. i`ve been playing on the hardest setting as well.
as mentioned there`s some little things that need ironing out that have hopefully been done for the full game but overall it seems like it has potential.

Just been reading the bungie forums and people have found a lot of things pointing to just how big this game is going to be with extensions to both the tower and the overall world.

Re: Destiny - beta access
had about another hour today.
the layout of map/planet reminds me of borderlands. as a whole the more i play the more it feels like a re-skinned halo game.
the third mission, i tried on hard and after several attempts gave up and tried it on normal which then was too easy. bit annoying but guessing the single player is very much focused on co-op play.
lots to comment on this game but keep forgetting stuff from when playing.

one thing i did forget to mention, the multiplayer is mental! so fast paced i can only presume the decent players are shooting through on a good lsd tab.

Judging by the few laps I've done I believe the word would be challenging GT, with my car trying to Scandinavian flick even on the straights bring on FM Rallysport

If I remember correctly you didn't have too much mechanical sympathy for your controllers on the 360 so no wonder the ps4 ones are breaking Scott.
Re: Destiny - beta access
True but I haven't played the ps4 anywhere as much as I did xbox 360 I played on me mates xbone and the new controllers feel really nice tbh
