Elder Scrolls
Ok, well erm yea...don't want this post to be a rant, cus its not, its just despondent. When they first mentioned the monthly subscription for this I kinda didnt mind as I thought the game would be either free to download (a bit like Project Spark) or would be usable without the subscription. After looking into it a bit, it appears this is the actual set-up:
But game eg. £49.99 at Game for standard or £89.99 for Ltd Edn
To then actually play the game its a subscription fee of $14.99 per month (haven't seen it mentioned anywhere in £'s)
I personally have no issue with DLC, and normally buy the Forza stuff, bought it for Skyrim etc etc. But...I buy it when I can afford it and if I know im working long hours for the next few weeks and have no gaming time I wont get it till I can. Also, and most importantly, I can still play the game I bought originally even if I don't buy the DLC. I don't mind moving with the times, but if im paying circa £15 a month for something im going to want to use it
Just worked out in our house, there was 4 of us who played Skyrim, with only me having XBL Gold as the other 3 never play online. If we got Elder Scrolls online, that would be 4 XBL memberships required and 4 monthly subscriptions...ignoring monthly XBL subscriptions cus that is expensive ;)If its £50 per year per person, that's £200. If we be kind and say Elder Scrolls is £10 p/m that's £120 a year x 4 = £480. £680 per year + the cost of the game which puts it at over £700 for the first year! Obviously, if there are multiple saves available they could all just use my account
My conclusion to this is a. this game was not marketed to families. b. this game was not marketed to workers. c. this game works if you are single, have no life and sit in proverbial basement 12 hrs a day gaming :roll:either that or I am massively missing the point
Like I said, not ranting, just sad and disappointed. Was really looking forward to the latest Elder Scrolls...now I just feel deflated. If anyone knows different or I have misunderstood then please enlighten me I really hope it doesn't work though, imagine if it does and the others jump on the bandwagon. XBL Gold @ £5pm. Forza @ £10pm. Battlefield @ £10pm. Elder Scrolls @ £10pm. That's just 3 games. We bought the xbox originally for nearly £500, spend £150 buying the actual copies of those 3 games. My goodness, gaming could be getting very expensive

Re: Elder Scrolls
pretty much as you`ve stated, £9 a month. not out for a couple of months on the one either. had a chat with a chinese friend who stereotypically knows all when it comes to mmo rpg`s and he advised to stay well clear!
loved the elder scroll series so far and really wanted this online direction but it`s current set up is a massive no no for me. been lots of talk that come christmas 2015 the pay to play scheme will be scrapped, not so sure meself.

Re: Elder Scrolls
I can see it starting as p2p then going f2p after a few months but I bet the f2p would have online limitations but you could play the story mode (I have been watching a lot of beta videos and reading forums from what I can gather the story mode is terrible bugs galore missions are miles apart more so than skyrim and it feels and plays half arsed. Were as the online mode you can tell it is were all there effort has gone into and is good but it is not pay a sub per month good).
I would say either don't buy it or atleast don't rush out to get it and wait a while but personally i'm going to wait for whatever they make after elder scrolls online in the hope it will be a kinda skyrim/oblivian but way better.
Also the crafting in beta so far definitely looks as though it is not as good as skyrim.
