Real Photos of Real Race Cars

Post  Greenfly750 on Tue Feb 12 2013, 19:33

Okay. So they're rally cars, but lets not get too technical. They race against the clock. (This is the reason for my Forza absence since Friday)

Blackpool doesn't have much of a motorsport heritage. There would occasionally be sprints held along the promenade where I got first taste of burning rubber and petrol, but nothing major. There are a few motor clubs, but most of them just put on static displays. The BSSMC (Blackpool South Shore Motor Club) however join forces with Motor Sport NW to host the North West Stages, bringing top class motorsport to the shores of Blackpool and Fleetwood. Now it's 16th year, the rally is going from strength to strength and gets bigger and longer every year. I've loved attending this rally for the last 10 years and always look forward to February no matter how cold or wet the weather.

Anyway, I thought I'd share some of my images for you all to have a ganders at. Although I love motorsport, and photography, motorsport photography isn't my forte, so go easy on the critique.

How a bout a Group B spec Ferrari 308 GTS as a course car?

Or an ex-Kankkunen Celica as the second course car?

Some of the stages aren't traditional point to point stages. Some are looped for the benefit of spectators, which results in some close action, almost representative of circuit racing, or rally cross.

Here's one for Si. This little Saxo finished 2nd in class and 11th overall.

A Cosworth for Lucy.

There can be some real unusual sights on the stages, such as "Frosty the Forester" Don't under-estimate the shape though. The number on the door is last years finishing position.

The Army turn up year on year with their fleet of Land Rovers, and are always fully committed and entertaining to watch.

My sister was also on hand with her camera and captured some video footage which I pieced together. So you can enjoy some sound too. (We know the footage is a little shaky. She's only had the camera since Christmas and it's her first time filming anything properly)

For the record, Paul Bird won in his Focus WRC car (he's also the boss of a BSB team and a MotoGP team), Kevin Procter finished 2nd in his Subaru Impreza WRC and Chris Anderson finished 3rd overall and 1st in class in his Ford Fiesta.

You can see more photos.... HERE! Smile

To be honest I prefer the sound of the mk2 Escorts, but the anti-lag systems on some of the bigger cars create stupendously awesome noises on the over run. There was an Evo X that was constantly deafening everyone on the over run.
Ahhhh yeah. I remember those little cars. Been on them many times. I'm not sure if they've since been removed now though Sad

Haha. Thanks Gaz. The 6R4 just gives me the wobbles. Truly spine-tinglingly-amazing sound. Due to attending the rally, I didn't have time for a wall of noise post. Hopefully will be one up today or tomorrow.

Thought I'd post these here rather than clutter the place up with a new thread, and again, they aren't race cars.  But still very nice... in my opinion.

BVPG (Blackpool Vehicle Preservation Group), Fairhaven Lake show in Lytham.
This was the biggest turn out I've ever seen for this show and the variety of cars was massive.

Possibly my favourite of all the 911 designs (bar the early 70s), the 993 just has more style and character to it than the rest.

I've seen plenty of Delta Integrale's in my time, but never an Evo edition. Never seen a Lancia in this colour either. This thing is gorgeous.

This started life as a lazy 6 litre Jag.  It may only be a 4.2 now, but by the looks of those headers, it's a monster.  The rims were mega too.

There were a handful of motorcycles on display, and this is my pick.  Couldn't find the owner, but I think it's a late 40's to early 50's Model 18/Model 50.  But I'm not sure.  I am sure I like it though.

One of the oldest Morris Minor's I ever seen.  A 1949 edition, complete with low slung lights.  I think it looks so much better than high-light model.

I think we counted 21 Triumph Stags... in one place!

One of my favourite cars at the show.  Started life as an 1100 popular.  It now houses a 1300, with high lift cams and sport pistons and the little write up the owner had created for the day was hilarious.  Loved it.

A handful more can't hurt, eh.

A line up of the iconic Porsche rear end.

Another view of the many many stags

I didn't realise what I was looking at until I got home and reviewed the images, otherwise I'd have done a few more. Really nice car.
